The Little Green Bag Project
Make Change Happen!

A little green bag background....
Influencing a few families' shopping bag habits was the goal. I was going to host a 'decorate your shopping bag' party for some of my daughters' friends - send them home with their cool cloth bags and they could help remind their folks to use them when shopping. While at Whole Foods Market one day, I approached them with my idea. They offered their patio and supported 25 bags. Local eco-minded owner of Coastal Expeditions, Chris Crolley, furthered the idea. "I'll buy 100 bags. Now you have to name this effort, put my business name on your bags and hand them out to willing shoppers." The Little Green Bag Project was born. Over 260 locally sponsored bags were handed out on April 28, 2007 at Whole Foods Market. In addition, $330 was collected from people that wanted to help this idea grow. As of tthe first of January, 1033 bags are paid for with the help of more than 30 businesses and individuals.
About the bag...
The bags are made from a fabric named EcoSpun (100% post consumer content). To instill a community based feel, the bags will carry the logo of a local sponsor, and each bag will be numbered. This makes it possible for us all to watch the L.G.B.P. grow! Bags can also be personalized with a cool drawing, or quote, or anything scannable.
What's happening...
Due to fantastic community support, The Little Green Bag Project has taken on a life of it's own. Over 50 bags were designed by individuals, and in the spirit of a "green" christmas, were given as gifts to help spread the environmental message. Stay tuned to hear how some of our local schools are getting on board.
Wanna get invovled...
Each bought bag sends the roots a bit deeper, so sponsor a bag! The cost is $10 and it is barely above the cost to create it. My mission is not to make money, but to simply see how far we can take this movement to change our community's beastly plastic bag habit.
Contact me, Jennifer Mathis, for a bag, email some encouragement or ideas, get a business to sponsor some bags, join the cause - lets...
